Martingale Roulette Strategy

The chances are, you’ve already heard about the Martingale system since it is so commonly used in the US online casinos. But, do you know how this roulette strategy works? Can it beat the house?

Well, sit tight and let’s explore the ins and outs of the most popular roulette system – the Martingale.

Roulette guide

The Philosophy Behind the Martingale Roulette Strategy

Over the years, the Martingale system has spread across the globe, becoming the most popular system of them all. Of course, New Jersey online casinos are no exception, and you can apply the Martingale scheme there as well.  Like many other strategies, this betting concept also comes with a set of pros and cons, which we will discuss in a moment. Yet, despite all the flaws, Martingale continues to attract American roulette players.

In fact, this betting system has been used ever since the 18th century. According to most sources, France was the country that gave us the Martingale strategy. Yet, some experts on casino games claim that the framework was designed by John Martindale. Allegedly, he was the one who named the strategy, modifying one letter of his surname. Either way, the simplicity of the system took the world by storm. And, millions of players all over the world have tried to beat the casino with the use of the Martingale scheme.

How It Works

Martingale System_2

In theory, the Martingale system is a so-called steep progression that allows the players to collect lots of small winnings in the short term. How is that possible? Well, the Martingale is well-known for its convenience. Here are two basic steps you need to follow:

  • If you lose – double the bet
  • If you win – play again with the initial bet

So, before you even start the cycle, it is important to determine the size of the starting bet. As a rule of thumb, roulette players start with the table minimum. In most New Jersey online casinos,  this amounts to $5 or $10.

Also, roulette players who want to try the Martingale concept should place their chips on the even-money bets, such as red/black, even/odd, or low/high. Another name for these wagers is the outside bets, and they offer a low payout of 1:1. At the same time, these propositions are the safest bets you could be making when playing roulette in a New Jersey online casino.

To illustrate the progressions, let’s assume that the players start the cycle by betting $5. In case they win, they play again with the same amount, stashing the extra dollars in the bank. But, as soon as they lose, they must double the wager. So, the next coupe is played with a $10 bet. If you lose – the next bet should be double again, i.e. $20, then $40, and so on. Rinse and repeat. The doubling continues until you encounter a win, which breaks the cycle and resets the progression to the starting bet.

Can the Martingale Strategy Beat the House?

Many roulette players are fooled into thinking that the outside bets are offering 50-50 odds. However, the green zero on the wheel offsets the probabilities, leaving the players with a 48.6% chance of winning. In translation, the casino always has an upper hand, especially in the long run.

Unfortunately, the Martingale scheme is also powerless against the superiority of the house edge. Because of the imbalance of the even-money bets, the players will lose more spins than they will win. Needless to say, short term play does not have to follow these ‘rules’. But, eventually, the odds will swing in the favor of the casino, despite how bulletproof the Martingale may seem.

Advantages of the Martingale Strategy

As we said, the Martingale system is simple and easy to apply. Thus, rookies and novice players can quickly pick up the gist of the concept. In a way, this is probably the main reason for the widespread popularity of the strategy.

Other than that, the Martingale can allow you to experience frequent small wins. So, with a bit of luck and some clever money-management, you could come out ahead. In translation, your sessions at one of the online casinos in the US could reward you with thousands of dollars.

Disadvantages of the Martingale Strategy

DISADVANTAGES OF THE MARTINGALE STRATEGY

Despite all the benefits of using the Martingale, there is a reason why pro players never use this system. In fact, there are a couple of reasons!

First of all, the Martingale strategy is risky and you could end up losing a lot of money. Since the losing streaks can happen at any moment, players can exceed the betting limits prescribed by the casino. For instance, you would go over the $500 mark after just 7 bets, and 9 losses in a row would take you over $1.000!

Also, players with a small bankroll often find themselves stranded by not being able to fund the next bet to continue the progression. To clarify, Martingale can result in bankruptcy before you even know what hit you. For that reason, we recommend taking a cautious approach with using the Martingale at the top US online casinos.

Variations of the Martingale Roulette Strategy

Over the years, roulette players experimented with the use of the Martingale. As a result, we now have several modifications at our disposal. For example, the Reverse Martingale is a well-known variation. In essence, this concept entails the opposite of the ‘real’ Martingale. To clarify, the Reverse or the Anti-Martingale instructs the players to increase their bets after winning.

On top of that, the so-called Grand Martingale is a system that entails the most risk of all the variations. However, the common ground for all these concepts is that they are straightforward and easy to apply.

How Difficult Is the Martingale Strategy?

Unlike some other betting systems, the Martingale is as simple as they get. There are no complex calculations, you don’t have to memorize lots of numbers, nothing. All you have to do is set up an initial bet and double it if your bet ends up on the wrong side of the coin.

Therefore, the Martingale system is super easy to implement and understand. Of course, players should be aware of all the pros and cons of the concept before applying it to their roulette sessions.

Verdict

After looking at all the aspects of using the Martingale strategy, it is clear that this system comes with a sizable risk of losing a lot of money. In theory, the Martingale may seem like a logical and infallible concept. Nonetheless, this is an illusion. After all, the math says that you cannot beat the casino, at least not in the long run.

At the same time, the Martingale could reward you with a couple of small wins. For that reason, American players should try out this system only after they’ve mastered the art of self-control.
